Why it exists
We needed it for ourselves.
Image Depot LLC runs Image Depot, software for photographers. Our help desk needs a place where support escalations from the app land in front of the right person, and where a reply in the thread goes back to the customer.
We wanted that place to be secure, and we wanted to control it. We did not want to hand our customers’ conversations to a chat tool we could not inspect. So we built CM Chat, and our own help desk runs on it.
Other organizations have the same need: a team chat that keeps its guard up, with simple controls and honest answers about how it works. That is why CM Chat is available to others, by invitation.
How we work
A few plain principles.
Honest claims
We say what is built and running, and say plainly what is not. CM Chat is not end-to-end encrypted, and we say so.
Privacy by design
Data encrypted in transit and at rest, every workspace kept separate, passkeys, invite-only workspaces and a detailed log of admin activity.
People, not funnels
Workspaces are set up by invitation. When you write to us, a person writes back.
