Using CM Chat

Search

  1. Open search from the sidebar and use the Search messages box. To jump to a channel or person instead, press Ctrl/Cmd + K.
  2. Type one or more words and press Enter.
  3. Click a result to jump to the message.

You can narrow results to a channel or person with the In (conversation) and From (person) filters. They default to Any conversation and Anyone.

How matching works

  • Whole words only. Searching meet does not find meeting. Search for the full word.
  • Every word must match. Searching budget review finds messages containing both words, anywhere in the message.
  • Capital letters don't matter. Budget and budget are the same.
  • Accents don't matter. cafe finds cafĂ©, and the other way around.

If you cannot find a message, try fewer words, or the exact word it used.

What search covers

Search looks only in channels and conversations you can read. You will never see results from channels you are not in, and deleted messages do not show up.

If you cannot find something you remember, ask whether you were in that channel when it was posted. Joining a public channel lets you search its history.
