Unread messages and mentions

Channels and conversations with messages you have not seen are marked in the sidebar, and show how many are unread. Open the conversation and scroll to the bottom to mark them read.

CM Chat remembers what you have read, so it also updates on your other devices. Reading on your phone clears the marker on your laptop.

Mentions

When someone writes @yourname, that message counts as a mention. A channel with a mention shows a separate mention count. @channel and @here also count as mentions for everyone in the channel.

Muted channels

A muted channel is quieter; see Channels. You can still read it any time.

Notifications

You can turn on desktop notifications for when the app is closed. See Notifications.
